Hopsin… King of underground Hip-hop

“I heard a lot of people today saying they Rap…bunch of clowns.. This shit was created from pain and confusion..what da fuck are you spitting..what are you putting to the world..you prolly ain’t gat nothing to live for or die for that’s why your rhymes are wearing pampas.. Hopsin..Hopsin…Hopsin….he is me and I am him.. Hiphop lives… Hopsin killed it…“

I don’t think I’ve ever heard Blaze praise a rapper like this before. well, except for Immortal Technique and NAS. And that means so much coming from him.

So Hopsin… aka Marcus Jamal Hopson, is a popular American rapper, record producer, director and actor from Los Angeles, California.

I first heard his music with that single “FLY” that Blaze made me listen to earlier this year. It was one of this moment where you instantly fall in love with a song and the talent of the musician behind it.

No bitches, clubbing, money or drug bullshit in his lyrics. He is all about seeking more depth and meaning out of life.

His instrumental are perfect, for most there are kind of minimalist, catchy, beautiful melodies, an emphasis on his voice and lyrics, and always of an amazing quality.

We love how his fearlessness, honesty and frank talk, his thought-provoking lyrics, that’s what Rap & Hip-hop should be all about. Content matters. This guy has a voice and something deep to say, and it’s really worth being heard.

So where’s he at ?

He is an independant artist, with his own label Funk Volume with Damien Ritter. His been out there doing music and signing artists for years like XXL freshmen Jarren Benton and Dizzy Wright..

In July 2015, he dropped his latest album Pound Syndrome featuring the song “Ill Mind of Hopsin 7” with guest spots by Jarren Benton and Dizzy Wright.

A wink to his latest video, for his satirical song “No words“, where he makes fun of the poor quality rap of today where anyone can make a rap hit with bullshit lyrics, no skills and auto-tune.
